Don't Let Your Fuel Bills Get You Down.  Heat Your
Home with Wood!

Northern Michigan can get a bit cold in the winter time. I just ordered 175 gallons of #1 fuel oil and it was $3.27 a gallon.   Good thing oil is only a back up....I use wood as my primary heat source.  This year I bought 10 pulp cord and had it delivered.  The semi load was $900.00 for Red and White Oak.  This should last me close to two years. I should get around 25 or more face cords.

A face cord around Traverse City Michigan is getting close to $50.00, and with the price of gasoline I'm sure it will go even higher.  My goal is to get three years worth of wood cut and put away.  Just to know you have three years worth of heat...paid for in advance is a comfort in it's self.  That's two semi's or 20 pulp cord ($1800.00)

Actually that would last a little more that three years. What a deal...

I said I would never split wood again but....I can't afford not to.  So this year I went ahead and built a log splitter.  And of course I will have a DVD and an Online E_Course on how to build that within the next two weeks.

The advantages of building your own Log Splitter is you can custom make it to fit your needs.  I'm short, so I installed the hydraulic controls to be comfortable for me.

I designed it to be used as a horizontal or vertical splitter.  There's one thing for sure, you will stay in shape if your going to heat with wood you cut and split yourself.

I also have a 300 gallon gasoline tank I bought during Y2K.  I'm glad I did, now I have fuel for my snow blowers and plow truck. Not to mention when the power goes out we also have our back up generators ready.  So winters not so bad up here when your set up for it.
